Reading 2 chapters out of a textbook might not sound all that impressive, but those two capacity were 84 pages. Teeny tiny font, multiple column textbook pages. I was actually busy during the semester I took Sociological Theory in college, so I got to read the assigned pages in this book just precious fiddling else. Virtually people forget or sell dorsum their textbooks as shortly as a class is over, just I'm going to get my several hundred dollars worth,
One of my favorite textbooks from college. Don't judge.Reading ii chapters out of a textbook might not sound all that impressive, but those two chapters were 84 pages. Teeny tiny font, multiple column textbook pages. I was actually decorated during the semester I took Sociological Theory in college, and so I got to read the assigned pages in this book but precious little else. Most people forget or sell back their textbooks equally soon as a class is over, but I'k going to get my several hundred dollars worth, thank you very much.
I started again on this one because
a) Sociological Theory takes up about 1/4 of the Masters plan I'm considering and I feel that reading this will help me attain a decision.
b) This textbook has tons of crawly primary sources at the end of each chapter. Essays that I would buy and read anyway.
c) I miss school and reading is my favorite part of school anyhow. Unless I make up one's mind I'm going to use said Primary's degree, I can acquire everything on my own for free.
Chapter 1 was the introduction chapter, which made me feel as if I'd learned almost nothing in school, and Chapter ii focused on Karl Marx, 1 of the two most important figures in Classic Sociology. Reading about Marx was a breeze, only reading original Marx (x essays and excerpts) when your brain is mostly taken up with keeping Etsy orders directly and talking to children all day is a giant feat. I read those in the few solitary moments this month when my brain was fully functioning. Yay for brain push ups.
...more thanStudents found the book challenging, nonetheless engaging. In that location are more bones theory books on the marketplace, and this one was dense plenty for grad students, so I'm really proud of my undergrads. They peculiarly enjoyed the extra information nearly theories, theorists, and readings that the authors present, and reported that the metatheoretical framework was useful for them likewise (though some never quite grasped its abstraction).
The volume is huge already, but a couple improvements would be more than recent pieces (in that location is picayune from the last few decades), and in so doing, more pieces past and about minority writers (women, people of colour, indigenous theorists, LGBTQ sociologists, etc.). Like I said, the book is huge already, and what information technology does it does beautifully. In that location are other books focusing on other bodies of theory, and I empathize that this i has incorporated some of these things over the editions. A+, will use again next time I teach theory. Oh also, another I used for personal reference and pulled a couple extra readings from was Social Theory Re-Wired, which I will review in one case I finish reading the pieces in there!
